Long before dealing with a toppled mast or recovering a person overboard become real emergencies, every day decisions increase or decrease the likelihood of having an onboard crisis. In this all-day course, Jamie spotlights real examples of how easily unsafety at sea creeps onboard, discusses how to identify them on your own boat, and recommends how to address these factors when they arise. Big problems start small, when potential risk isn’t recognized.
The first half of this class brings together a framework for being safe. This includes understanding variability of human response under stress, assessing risks, containing problems, using communication skills, and five unique procedural solutions. In the second half we’ll cover causes, resolution, and prevention of most common and worrisome safety at sea issues.
