All cruisers understand that thunderstorms can spoil a passage in many ways – strong winds, dangerous lightning, large waves or visibility-limiting rain. The 3-hour Thunderstorms & Doppler Weather Radar Workshop will examine the various types of thunderstorms and the atmospheric ingredients that lead to their formation. Several readily available specialized resources designed to forecast the probability of thunderstorm development, and their potential risk will be introduced.
Once thunderstorms are underway, weather-savvy cruisers will benefit from a working knowledge of Doppler Weather Radar. The Workshop will explain how Doppler Weather Radar works and a introduce the common types of radar imagery. You’ll learn how to interpret radar imagery to monitor the intensity, evolution, risk, and movement of approaching thunderstorms.
